What I am up to?
First Evers
I have led quite a few “First Evers” this year
- First ever -COVID related publication of the department and (first and possible only one found in literature) COVID vitreous RT-PCR performed on a patient.
- First ever – Mobile health device – colour vision app being developed by Eyes in collaboration with respiratory medicine, Imperial research and a private corporate company Enchroma.
- First ever – Refraction exam revision course run successfully for OLT/OST and OPT streams and generating funds towards training and education.
- First ever (and only) – OLT Training Programme in the country to be listed officially on the Royal College Ophthalmology website committing to delivery of training standards, regional teams support and ARCPS mirroring the OST programme.
- First ever – Optometrist led drug toxicity and referrals pathway successfully, having shared care with respiratory physicians and oncologists.
Research
Recently, I was one of the leads in formulating new guidance on management of inflammation in thyroid eye disease for both the British and European societies (BOPSS and EUGOGO)
My research in OCT Imaging in treatments of retinal conditions – diabetes, macular degeneration, vascular occlusive conditions is presented and published every year in international conferences and journals (EURETINA, ARVO, IOVS, AJO, etc.)
International consultations
Increasingly, (on the background of COVID), I have been doing international video consultations especially for patients from the Indian subcontinent, Latin America and Africa with ocular inflammation and medical ophthalmology conditions. I worked with a team from Guyana to diagnose black fungus (mucor mycosis) and a few patients from Uruguay with ocular Tb to formulate treatment plans.
